Wes made the excellent suggestion that we FOTs as a community might pull together and bid on one item from the Michael Jackson Dr. Fink collection auction.

The auction can be seen here: http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2009/michael-jackson/index.html CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PROVIDE URL

Please review carefully, pick an item, and make an argument as to why we should bid.

Thread will accept new suggestions until April 1. Following that is a 7 day review period, with a final decision on April 7th.

Lets see what we can rustle up.

I like the randomness of the kid in the Suns jersey.

I think the best true Jackson option would be the golf cart with the hood art of Michael as Peter Pan.

Creepiest is probably the Peter Darling statue.

So when I shared the link to the catalog in the chat, I didn't realize that it was just 1 of 5 catalogs (specifically the "Amusements, Arcade Games, and Disneyana" volume).

http://www.juliensauctions.com/auctions/2009/michael-jackson/catalog-list.html

The best one is obviously "Memorabilia from the Life and Career of Michael Jackson".  Pretty much every MJ outfit, wax figure, and award (the Moonmen are most expensive) you could imagine is available.

Highlights:
pg. 20, item 1100 - Paul Bedard acrylic on canvas feat. Mona Lisa, E.T., Lincoln, Einstein, Washington and MJ all wearing sunglasses and sequined gloves.
pg. 59, item 1154 - Vincent McKoy acrylic on canvas portrait of MJ dressed as a king
pg. 72, item 1169 - Michael Jackson & Macaulay Culkin original art
pg. 88-91, item 1189 - Moonwalker animated head prop
pg. 120-121, item 1228 - David Nordahl oil on canvas image depicts MJ in a field w/children of all nationalities
pg. 143, item 1253 - Michael Jackson Ghosts Lifemasks
pg. 164, item 1280 - Michael Jackson hands display - one flesh colored w/taped fingers, one silver
pg. 174, item 1292 - fan-made hand-stitched embroidery of MJ w/Disney & Warner Bros. character (inc. Tiny Toons!)
pg. 186-187, item 1306 - Ralph Cowan oil on panel, depicts apocalyptic scene w/MJ in armor
pg. 188-189, item 1307 - David Nordahl oil on canvas triptych of MJ being crowned, knighted & as crusader
pg. 194, item 1314 - MJ Basketball Uniform, fluorescent orange
pg. 199, item 1321 - Jackson Five Contract

I think the Moonwalker animated head is a shoe in.

Shea, I investigated the Dr. Fink auction a bit more, and the whole thing ended up being a huge scam. It was a different Dr. Fink, a dentist in Delaware, and it turns out he was just trying to get rid of medical waste by hiding it in knock-off Prince memorabilia that he was selling on eBay. I'm sorry I got your hopes up. But I'm even sorrier that the Raspberry Beret cloud suit that I won was a fake with used cotton swabs and novocaine needles shoved in the pockets, and that I'm going to have to turn it over to the police.

On the Moonwalker animated head prop: I will have no parts in bidding on this, but I'm glad I saw it. I've suspected for years that a robot was going to kill me and at least now I know what it's head will look like.

This may be the year I will disappear.

So why is he selling all his worldly possessions?  Are lung transplants really that expensive?

Maybe he's anticipating a major lawsuit.

The state of California is charging him huge retroactive rent for all those years they held that stuff in storage as evidence.

I would bid on the prop scissorhands.

We could pool our resources and buy Tom the World's Creepiest Air-Hockey Table.
