Hey Tom! Ever heard Joel Plaskett?
« on: November 18, 2009, 11:41:12 PM »
I'm sure you have but on the off chance you've never given him a listen I thought I should mention the guy. His official website compares him to Big Star, he's opened for Paul McCartney and he just seems like something that would fit in with alot of the stuff I hear you play. I know you're into Sloan which is awesome but I've never been sure how well know Joel is outside his native Canada.

As much as I dislike linking bad quality youtube stuff I kinda have to because the songs and videos on his official site don't seem to work:

Hope you enjoy! (it would be the greatest thing ever if you played some Joel Plaskett at the start of the show. As if I didn't already get enough for my 180 dollar pledge, here I am asking for more.)

Ah, Joel. I must have seen him play live a good hundred times* here and there in Halifax over the years. It's been nice to watch his steady climb to Canadian institution status.

A personal favorite from those earlier days (I think he still plays this one on occasion):

Great lyrics, supposedly inspired by an obnoxious audience member he encountered when seeing the movie Fearless with Jeff Bridges.

I certainly felt the True Patriot Love when I heard so many Canadians coming through like heroes in the marathon...
