Title: Trying to track down moment from WFMU show
Post by: miniminivan on June 21, 2017, 06:04:42 PM
This is a bit of a deep cut/long shot, but there is a moment from the WFMU show in which Tom talks about going to a BeatleFest/Beatles convention.

Over the years, there have been a handful of BeatleFest discussions, but the one I'm trying to find is prior to 2011, and it contains the following:

Tom tells a story about some guy (I think an older guy) who wanders from the Beatles jam in a hallway/lobby area, into an area where they are screening a film. The guy has an instrument (I believe a harmonica), and he starts playing along with the film being shown.

I cannot for the life of me track this episode down. If you go into the archive and search "Beatle," you find two relevant-seeming descriptions:

April 8, 2008: Tom Breaks Down His Sad Visit To The BeatleFest And His Defeated Quest For Bootlegs. Bryce Calls In To Talk Bootlegs. Pudge Throws His Hat Into The Ring. And The Topic Is 'Losing Your Cool'.

March 27, 2012: MATT WALSH discusses his new film ‘High Road’, and TV show ‘Veep’! KURT BRAUNOHLER talks about subs! Casting ‘The Best Show Apprentice’! Tom went to another Beatles convention, and things got weird! And a little taste of ‘The Vance and Gary Show’!

^^^However, neither of these are the show I'm looking for.

It is also NOT the March 29, 2011 show with the "Mr. Moonlight" story.

I know this is a longshot, but if anybody happens to know how I might find that episode, I would be so appreciative!

I remember one Beatlefest story where there was forum of some kind and they were listening to alternate takes of one album.. picking out differences in the drums maybe?  (listen to the high hat here).. and some guy wanders in from the lobby jam session with an egg shaker and starts playing along with the music.  Sorry I am not much help.. I think it was in 2010.

The Beatlefest kazoo moment is one of the highest moments of comedy in a show with a lot of them. It's possible that guy doesn't even remember his humiliation, and yet it's been indelibly inked into my memory.

Maybe the kazoo-ist who humiliated Mr. Moonlight Man at Beatlefest is the same guy who's been calling the show of late with his fake kazoo chops. Anybody consider that?

This is definitely the moment I am thinking of (I was thinking harmonica, but I think you're right that it was an egg shaker - and also correct that it was listening to alternate takes, not a film). I'll have to do some more digging!

I'm listening to 2010 in the archives and heard this recently. Try the March 30th episode, which has a call/vist from Wurster as a Beatles superfan. I believe Tom talks about the convention towards the beginning of the show.

Update: Beatlefest talk starts at around 1:33:00
