All of those radio voices were furious CB'ers in Irvine, captured through The Weatherman's* radio scanner.

* Dave Wills (http://www.negativland.com/dumb/blog/), who also captured the world of Bay Area early-1980s amateur radio repeater jamming (http://dumb.negativland.com/2011/11/15/radio-sounds-mix-shortwave-cb-scanner-am-early-1980s/) on the 2 meter band**, material that lead to the earthshattering JamCon '84 tape.

** Post modified three years later because Negativland restructured their website.

Ah yes...very cool. Thank you for the link.

Hope I am returning a favor by offering this show from the Bay Area. I think a similar show, or an incarnation of this one,  is where I first heard about Negativland. I might be making stuff up, though.

At about minute 90 of Gilbert Gottfried's toilet-mouthed podcast, guest Billy West and the crew discuss Casey Kasem, Snuggles...and Shaggy. If you liked the 60s-era Scooby-Doo, there are some fascinating tidbits about Casey, Shaggy, and...meat.  https://www.gilbertpodcast.com/billy-west-returns/ (https://www.gilbertpodcast.com/billy-west-returns/)

BONUS! They also discuss The Buddy Rich Tapes (https://youtu.be/uWP77C4StLs) after Snuggles!

Oh, man! Casey Kasem and Buddy Rich - the angriest of the angry men!

The Buddy Rich tapes were "remastered" to deal with tour bus engine noise and backstage racket and then put on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omID1prJHFo). The guy recording all this secretly was his pianist, Lee Musiker. The guy he threatens to fire for having a beard was trombonist Dave Panichi.

Cubs manager Lee Elia ranting about the fans in front of a radio reporter (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiVVbYK9HXw) after the team lost a game in 1983 is considered similar to the Buddy Rich recordings, but really it's more of an angry guy furious that the fans had thrown a beer at the team and booed as they walked off the field, not taking the time to switch gears and fake being quietly disappointed. He nearly lost his job over the recording, then was fired later anyway because the Cubs kept losing that year.

"I'm sorry, Lee"
"Please don't move while Mr. Welles is speaking."
