Title: Sadness
Post by: erika on August 21, 2009, 11:35:06 AM
Post here if you're sad that you can't go. I don't have enough vacation time to take off any days that week :( Some day... some day I will make it....

I have tons of vacation time, I get almost 8 weeks a year, but sadly I lack the funds.  Sad sad sad.

It sucks. Hopefully next year, I'll have the time to go.

Erika, call in sick.
AkaJudge, beg, borrow or steal the money.
There are no excuses, you will regret this for the rest of your life.

I think the only logical solution to this problem is to just go and push your boss.

If I weren't taking the entire week off the week before, I probably could swing it. But I don't accrue hours that quickly  :-\

I'm already -13 hours in sick time. (Out of +40)

Some day I will meet you people in person!

The lack of any mention of helicopter rides was a deal breaker with me.

That, and my location. I will be there in spirit. As a matter of fact, I'll get started on that right now.

I have the means and the vacation time to get to NJ but I am working on a project that requires me to be here in LA (where I live) during the day.  My wife has encouraged me to drop everything and go but I just can't leave work undone.

I have been wondering if it's a dumb idea to try to set up a small satellite meet up for Los Angeles area FOT's? Perhaps FOT's in other cites could follow suit and we can have a National FOT Night. Not sure if anyone in LA or elsewhere would be interested in this.

I definitely have the time, but not the money. Not this time.

No carpool, no feasible greyhound, no money for unfeasible greyhound. SADNESS.

Perhaps something could be arranged with the relocated PFT and the Los Angeles chapter of the Spike fan club.

We should do a Pacific NW satellite meet up but we don't actually meet up, we'll just acknowledge that a meet up is going on at the same time as we preserve our anonymity in front of our computers. Anyone?

I would buy a drink for PFT and any member of the LA Spike Fanclub.

Three days earlier and this would be completely possible for me, but classes start in Boston that very day. Hoping for a next time!

I would have to skip work and class, which truthfully I would be willing to do if I wasn't already planning a NY trip for the WFMU record fair in October, for which I have drastically cut back my my day-to-day spending in order to save money. Win some, lose some.

I am staying home with baby sheano, so that Scratchbomb can go to the gathering. I'm considering making him bring a palm sized cardboard cut out of me.

This entire section of the boards now make me sad, I may not be around here until after this is over so I'm not reminded of it every time I look at the main index page. I possibly have the funds and could maybe even get the time to go too, but it's just not enough notice to fully pull it off. This time last year, I would have been there for sure.

Damn you, 2009.

If I were going without Mrs. Be The Boy she would just hope I didn't say/do anything regrettable.

I just checked my watch and it clearly denotes that we are living in the INTERNET AGE!

So, how difficult would it be for someone there to rig up a laptop w/a Skype chat open...or something?  Is this a cost prohibitive idea?

I don't know how to do it, but I know it can be done.  Anyone?  Anyone?

NC.  Seriously.  The problem is that only one airline flies nonstop to Newark from RDU these days (Kennedy and La Guardia have some competition and are much more reasonable, but then you're talking about a pretty big cab ride).

That and the fact that there's no Saturday night stay and you just get a really expensive flight.

You can get a cheaper flight from Sweden to Newark. Most of them are around $400.

How bout from Greensboro (I fly in there to/from Newark occasionally). I see fares for $210- arriving Tues. leaving Thu.  Cheap, quick train/PATH trip from the airport to Iron Monkey.  You can sleep at Jason's.  Plus, there is a great, cheap bar in Hoboken (next to Jersey City) with FOT bartenders that I am guessing will make sure to treat you and other out-to-towners right the rest of your stay.

Seriously people, "what one man can do..."

What is the name of this establishment? I will input it into my palm pilot.

Louise & Jerry's - bartender Brian is a FOT.  My name -- Rick -- may not get you far but Brian likes fallen administrator Jason.

At least your card won't set off the detectors at the airports you don't go to on the trips you don't take.

While I tend to always have my paper card with me when I'm out, I fear that it will not be of much use deflecting stray bullets.

Or, if paired with the paper version, you get a shiny surface AND cutting supplies.

True enough.  But only if you've laminated your paper card, which I have yet to do.
