So Massa's Tavern is like Cheers, but with transvestites and a make-out couch in the basement?

Thanks Mike! Looks like you've got a new career as an oral historian.

For the record I posted that before I heard the downstairs couch story. No pun was intended.

I love the sentimental Cheers/Flaming Moe's piano music at the beginning ... it makes the perversity of everything that follows all that much more hilarious.

I love how what somebody else might call an "oral history project," Mike calls an "internet reality TV show."

This was fantastic, Mike. I lost it when Joe tickled the mental patient under his chin causing him to flip out and break his restraints. Can't wait for the next installment.

I enjoyed it, but I will admit to getting sick to my stomach when Mike laughed at the guy's story about seeing a dog thrown out of a ninth-story window.

Take it easy, MOS. Of course, I wasn't laughing at that specific act. I don't condone cruelty to animals or think it's funny. My family has owned dogs since I was a kid. What I was laughing at is the fact that human beings think they are civilized and yet this is what they are capable of doing.

I loved this Mike. It's sad to think of all the amazing stories in similar bars that will just be lost forever.

I think their stuff is out of print, TKC. But you should be able to find Michael Powers' most recent cds (plus he's got his own web site and there are lots of videos of him up on YouTube).

1. I liked your uncle.

2. Has there been an influx of new customers since you started your series, Mike?

3. Louie Mambo!

I can't say there's been an influx of new customers as a result of the videos, Sarah, but the other night I met some new people who seemed enthusiastic about doing interviews. I'm still just getting the word out at this point.

Also, I believe it's "Louie, Mambo etc." I believe they're two distinct individuals who, most likely, are deceased, like so many of the legends from my uncle's bars.

The German Shepherd story was like a creepy barfly version of Amazing Fantasy #15.

I love the the snippets of the unnamed customers' conversation at the beginning: "he says so I guess you wanna lawyer up now" and  something about the "perps" leaving photos.  A nice intro that really capture the feel of an urban blue-collar bar in the middle of a weekday. I like this series.

I just listened to the Kevin and John episodes after listening to last nights Best Show.  They were great.  The German Sheppard story was great but I may liked the Chuck Wepner kicking ass at the bar story even more.  I can't wait to use the phrase "assholes we're puckering that night."

Good stuff Mike

A new episode of The Faces of Massa's Tavern is up. Great bar stories from the legendary Ocean Eddie. I call this episode: "Horses, Spittoons, and Kielbasa." If you are not charmed by this man I will give you your money back:

Mike,

Family Fun would be honored to play Massa's Tavern. It's exactly the type of place we could use to lie low for a while.

Answer: Nah, it's just bologna...
