Hello from Chicago - I've already posted in other forums, but I'm going to use this opportunity to say hi to the FOTs here anyways.
Hi.
One thing I want to say is that the Best Show seems to attract a lot of librarians. I'm a librarian too. There's Laurie also and I remember a bunch of random callers who all said that they were librarians or library science students. I wonder why that is.
Anyhow, thanks.

Librarians are the Joe Lunchpail of the academic world. Those eggheads would be lost without them (you)!

I would have guessed Chicago was too tough for libraries.

You should see how we punish people who have overdue books. It's sick.

I know a bunch of librarians in the Chicago area, some of whom are FOT's.
Hi! We may have met before.

Thank you! I agree. We're ham and eggers for sure. The public library, like The Best Show, is a refuge for working class smart people. Laurie may be the exception that proves this rule. (Just kidding, Laurie.)

Hi! Maybe - however, I work at a public library out in Romeoville, Illinois and I've only been professional for a couple of years. If there's a meet up in Chicago, though, I'm bringing my copy of AACR2 and getting it signed by all the other librarian FOTs, dammit.

Anyone who mentions AACR2 on the FOT forum is my kinda person....I also work in the library realm as a cataloguer for a network of government libraries in Canada, so howdy from another member of the "academic joe lunchpail" set.

Wait, librarians are working class?
Is working class strictly a pay thing?

Not all of them, obviously - but how much would you pay a person who's getting tasked with shushing people and attaching unwieldy objects to the men's room key?

Nice. I'm cataloguing in MARC AACR2 at UW-Milwaukee for my LIS field work. RDA's never going to happen, is it?
