Title: EPL (Suck it Barclays!)* Fontasy Premier League
Post by: Kevin from Pittsburgh on August 03, 2012, 04:43:00 PM
I think a call went out last season to see if anyone would like to get a FOT league going.  Any interest for the upcoming season?

Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
Glory glory Tottenham Hotspur
And the Spurs go marching on

I say either sell Modric and get Lloris or stop this nonsense.  Don't like to see Friedel pushed aside, but Lloris would be a great addition.

And that's hard for me to say, because I became a Spurs supporter when Keller joined.  Gotta support the Yankee keepers in the EPL, they have a great track record!

Kasey Keller
Brad Friedel
Tim Howard
Marcus Hahnemann
Brad Guzan
Boaz Myhill (technicality)

I didn't get a chance to research it yet, but does anyone know why Chelsea and Reading had 2 fixtures in the first week?  There's no cup ties coming up for quite a while, I wouldn't think.

I just really want the Modric situation over with so they can find a decent replacement in midfield.

It'd be a shame to see him go but I think they have enough cover, I like Gylfi a lot, and you have to let AVB get the team he wants.  He's hopefully there for the long haul, give him some money and let him build.

A striker or two would be good too, right? Seems like only a matter of time until Adebayor throws a fit.

Could AVB make Edin Dzeko into the player he once was? That guy was pretty unbelievable for a bit. Utterly rubbish now, though.

It'd be a bummer to see another US keeper bounced from the Lane.  The reason I became a fan of Spurs was Kasey Keller, but Lloris would probably be a long-term upgrade.

Dembele would be nice, Dzeko would hopefully find his scoring boots again.

Newbridge AFC (The Mighty 'Bridge) is biding its time. In hindsight, though, picking a Utd striker who wasn't Van Persie or Rooney was perhaps the stupidest move possible, however considering RVP's made out of balsa wood and Rooney has a hole in his leg, WHO KNOWS?

and Lloris is a super goalie, although I have a weird soft spot for US footballers. Dempsey, Keller, Friedel, Howard, Reyna, Donovan, McBride. dunno why, just like them is all.

Looks like Friedel's streak is coming to an end.  I didn't see any news about him going to another squad.

I was travelling and missed the news about Dempsey until this morning.  Wow!  Now I may have a few too many Spurs on my fantasy team!

As both an American and a relatively recent Spurs fan (I've been following them for about three seasons now) I'm very happy with the Dempsey move. Although to be honest, I thought the way he was acting at Fulham there was completely classless.

Agreed. But 90-something % of soccer players are completely classless, so it's not a shock. I wish it were different but when you take working class kids, basically take them out of education from the age of 13 and make them multi-millionaires even if they are mediocre it's to be expected. (this is the British players I'm talking about.)

A lot of people jumped on that Spurs bandwagon toward the end of the season, but they couldn't deliver.  Duncan is getting up there - still productive, but he can't carry a team through the playoffs like he used to.

Wait, what's a Totten Ham?

Transfer window doesn't close until after the EPL starts, then the interlull comes 3 or 4 rounds in.  Nothing like breaking up the cohesion and momentum!

Agreed. Very herky jerky.

On a related but side note:
How to make soccer big in America:
1. sell the television rights to World Cup qualifying matches to a brand new sports channel that a majority of Americans won't get...and then only show the live version of that game on the Spanish language version of that sports channel.
2. ????
3. Profit.

Welcome to modern FIFA. Money trumps all. Hence why the 2022 World Cup will be played in 120 degree heat in a tiny nation that has no football pedigree, little/no grassroots and no stadiums as of right now. Rather than you know, one that is actually set up for it.

I am still shocked that Sepp is hanging on.  But maybe I shouldn't be that surprised.  That must be the slimiest organization ever.

Chuck Blazer was the whistle-blower until we found out he was as crooked as the rest of them.

Lord Triesman blasting the shady deals of Russia and Qatar, but being secretly recorded by his mistress.

Maybe Jack Warner is the most honest out of them all!

It begins. I dreamt about my fantasy football team last night. I had Eden Hazard, who scored one and got 4 assists in one game. Awoke deliriously happy, until I remembered I don't have the diminutive Belgian in my side.

However, I do have Ji-Sung Park. So there's that.

I've noticed there are quite a few ex-Spurs around the league, and that was even before Harry's time.  Lots of turnover isn't always good.

I think Harry had Demba Ba (the third member of the currently unstoppable Newbridge AFC frontline) on a trial at West Ham, didn't he? Turns out you can build a nicely-functioning Fantasy Football team out of Harry rejects. *finds a way to transfer in Roman Pavlyuchenko*

Is it too late to join the forum league?  I'm so confused about where to enter the code.

I've sort of been interested in football since the South African World Cup, and now am starting to follow NBC SN coverage and play FIFA 2015 on my phone to actually get it.

You guys like Tottenham Hotspur?  I thought they weren't doing so well this year.  Did they have better previous seasons or is there something I'm not getting that is more important than wins/losses/draws?
