July 11th: Great show... Steven Baldwin?!
« on: July 12, 2006, 04:19:57 PM »
PBR was great as usual, Fred was cool.  Was that an actual call from Germany?!

But, what was up with "Steven Baldwin"?  Did Tom hang up on him for using a real name?

I couldn't really hear what was wrong with Denny Doherty's vocals on "Monday Monday", but I enjoyed the Jandek reference.

That Mamas & Papas clip is so weird. I think that the bassist is the one who starts the chain reaction by playing some off notes. He's the one on the grassy knoll.

I liked it. Tom should use it after all GOMPs hereafter, like the Kill Bill thing that used to precede the GOMP.

Fred is not cool.

Fred is not cool.

My sentiments exactly. I'm sorry I helped contribute to his calling in in the first place, but it's all a hoax anyway, wasn't it. At the end of the show, what, four weeks ago, didn't Fred's voice change mid call? Or am I just imagining things because I had the fever dreams that week?

Yeah, Fred was like "I didn't make a drug reference!  Wait, (in different, more sober-ish and aggressive voice) WHO IS THIS?" totally Bryce style, and then Tom GOMP'd him and said he was doing a bit.  But then A.P. Mike, I think, maintained that he thought the guy was for real.  Which is possible, because he could've just gone into paranoiac jump-out-of-stupor-and-man-the-defense mode, a real-life phenomenon that wurster seems to have based some comedy on.

But, what was up with "Steven Baldwin"?

You mean the actor?  I just am not following that.

1. My Prerogative - Bobby Brown
2. Every Rose Has Its Thorn - Poison
3. Straight Up - Paula Abdul
4. Miss You Much - Janet Jackson
5. I'll Be There For You - Bon Jovi
6. Toy Solider - Martika
7. Good Thing - Fine Young Cannibals

Tom does work in Hollywood... I can't imagine he'd let listeners make enemies for him.

Where was the Baldwin call going to go?  "Look at me, I'm Steven Baldwin.  I was in Meet the Deedles, or the usual Suspects, um...."

Soft Serve.

I dunno, it was like this:

T:  WFMU, you're on the air!

Caller:  Hey, this is Stephen Baldwin.

T:  OK, (call ends, then Tom moves on to next caller).

Just kinda funny, I guess.
