Awesome.

Yeah, between the Lil' Wayne haters and the David Archuleta lovers, things get heated over there.

ok, maybe those are apples and bananas
but I just read this Fluxblog kid talking about Wayne as some tortured genius

whats with indie rock people liking these shitty rappers?
is it meant to be ironic

or is it like me liking Hall & Oats, Journey, Genesis etc because I just don't know enuff about rock in the proper context?

Hell man, Stickyfingaz of Onyx fame was/is ten times the rapper and tortured soul this guy is.

Lil' Wayne is so bizarre looking! Has he spent his entire life in prison? That would be the only excuse for the prison tats covering his entire body, face included. UGH!

Some of the mixtapes have lots of great tracks.  Tom's dead on with the Pistol Pete comparison though, I don't think he has a great album in him.

He's a child star he must have been a pre teen or in his early teens when he was with Cash Money
I don't see where he had time to be in prison or run around doing all the criminal stuff he talks about but that's nothing new in rap Tupac was Baltimore theater school geek before morphing into a California gang banger, Ice Cube grew up in the suburbs. The only thing is some of these guys play the role for so long they start to think they really are the character in their rhymes.

I love how in one of Sean Kingston's little tunes he claims to have been incarcerated some number of years ago, which would have to mean that he was sent to prison at age nine.  I can't remember all the details but that's how the math works out.

Hey, Three 6 Mafia is coming to Madison Square Garden this week!  I can't wait.  Who all is going?

Yeah, the line's from the song "Beautiful Girls"

It was back in '99
Watchin' movies all the time
Oh when I went away
For doin' my first crime

I knew Kingston was young so I checked out his Wikipedia. In 1999, he was nine years old!

I also agree with Tom entirely about Lil' Wayne. I try getting excited listening to him but the guy can't write good hooks/choruses and has incredibly poor production on his songs. Terrible beats. I also think the fact that he bothers making these T-Pain style singles with the horrendous Auto-Tune warbly voice effects diminishes his claim to be the best rapper of all time. Good rappers don't need to do that crap.

if we want to talk about crafting pop rap songs etc

If you guys listened to DA DROUGHT 3 you probably wouldn't be so puzzled.

It's possible to enjoy things that are off your idea of the reservation without being "ironic".

pssht
people don't tolerate horseshit in rock
yet when it comes to rap they are a lot more forgiving
