IMDb Pro user Lisa Jane Persky.

I was so intrigued that I did a blog assessment of her career; I found the website that contains her photography, and tried to leave her a little note welcoming her to the FOT, offering her a peek at her assessment. Unfortunately her website would not accept the "secret code" that would allow me to send the note. I am going to post it here; I don't think she's on this site, but it 's open to any of you with the desire to see the results of her assessment.

Here 'tis.

Hi Ms Persky,

I am a FOT; if you have listened to the show as much as it seems, you may be more familiar with me as dave from knoxville.

Anyway, I have been writing a blog for about 2 and a half years that is primarily concerned with assessing the career achievement of film actors. (Before the invention of blogs, I had been refining this system for years before that, all as a hobby.)

After your call to the marathon, I was compelled to run your assessment. It means nothing, but I thought that maybe you would be interested in peeking at it. If so, it's here. Because you're "family", I spent a little more time on it than I normally do.

I hope you'll excuse the fawning.

Thrilled to learn you're a FOT, your photographs look terrific, hope we hear more from you on the show!

Your pal,

dfk

Dave, out of very idle curiosity, have you ever faced a restraining order?

I just wondered how well other people might take this sort of (very) "personal math."

Sarah, should the (very) be inside the quotes or outside?
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!

That made-for-tv movie about Meat Loaf that she was in actually wasn't half bad.

Should I be embarrassed to admit that?

Did anyone else think Tom got a bit mean towards the end? I thought he was mean to James and Larry dere.

Hilarious to both of you!  I also love how Larry is the only one who refers to APMike as "Michael."  Rather endearing.

It's fine as you have it.  You could also have put it within the quotation marks, in which case you'd need to use square brackets instead of parentheses.  But why do you use the quotation marks at all?  Is this an actual quotation?  Or are you using the marks for irony/emphasis?  If the latter, tsk tsk.  Unnecessary and much frowned upon in better circles.  I'm ashamed of you.

Having slept on this, I awake with this pathetic defensive thought:

I would be more concerned about the apparent creepiness (which I don't recognize) in this were Ms. Persky's assessment not the one thousand seven hundred and twenty-fourth one I have generated.

All I need is Celexa, not restraining orders. I am a force for good. A large, slothful, slovenly force.

Save your shame.  I was using them to denote words as words or, more precisely, an unusual compound word.  I didn't want personal to be read as merely an adjective for math - it's part of an indivisible term.  That's why the quotes.

Fair enough.  But I wouldn't let an author get away with that more than twice in an entire book if I could help it.  The Brits often hyphenate such compounds, which is a better (i.e., clearer) way of handling them, I think, even though I don't do it myself.
