Yeah, this is hardly the first time someone has accidentally sworn on the air. I don't know why this particular one was such a big deal, but I don't know the whole story so I guess I won't speculate.

I assumed that Tom's reaction was mostly for comedic purposes, though I realize that he sincerely doesn't appreciate on-air cursing.

My take on it was that he wasn't all that pleased with the lukewarm indifference that Walsh demonstrated in the interview before the F-bomb. Especially considering the apparent pestering by Walsh's press agent.
I'm in my late 50's.

Don't wanna drudge up stuff from history but I remember an F bomb in the Yankees vs. Mets bit.

I believe worries about such matters were less in those golden olden days. Then the FCC got the vapors at the sight of Janet Jackson's bosom.

But he had to bleep it and worry if it was going to happen again.  Puts a crimp in things.

Jen Kirkman recently F-bombed and she was forgiven fairly quickly. Only time will tell.

Didn't sound like comedy to me, that was serious.  Tom reiterated elsewhere that Walsh won't be back.
Although I can't say why this was so much worse than when Kirkman, Hardwick, or PFT slipped up.

WFMU did get in trouble with the FCC semi-recently, but Ken said their "probationary" (not sure of the exact term) period ended without a fine.

Anyway, I was wondering why the chat plug-in isn't based in IRC?  It's more reliable.

I'm halfway through this week's episode, but two things that stood out:

-Tom calling AP Mike Bob Clearmountain
-The Xcelerator conversation, specifically the "Operation" line.

The Roy Orbison impersonation was pretty good, too.

I really liked the tune Tom sang to accompany Tim and Eric's departure.

I feel silly even posting this, but hearing Tom wish failure and hate on Matt Walsh made me sad. Walsh's calls back in 2002 were my gateway into The Best Show. After his long running association with the show it seems weird to me that he would need or have or let a publicist pester Tom about appearing on the show. That says something about the whole situation.

Is it too much to ask for all of my favorite entertainers and comedians to be friends forever?!

Oh, life…

Tim and Eric were great though! Yet, I can't help but feel disappointed in humanity when self-professed Tim and Eric fans don't understand that the call wasn't about pulling one over on Tom. According to Twitter they seem to have a lot of fans who can't even tell when they are being serious or not…

I really liked the repetition of the words "Toiletland."

It's been a bizarre experience listening to the Matt Walsh portion of the podcast, since I've heard about the incident long before actually getting to hear the show for the first time. I'm basically on pins and needles waiting for the f-bomb to drop in the midst of what sounds like some reasonably friendly rapport, after which all hell will break loose. I admit it's pretty tense.

The guys I work with listen to Carolla's daily podcast and today's guest was Matt Walsh who mention that he'd recently been kicked off of his friend's radio show for dropping an F-bomb. Carolla asked who it was and he refused to answer stating that it was his friend and he felt bad about it.

Either a) this was serious, or b) this is an Andy Kaufman-esque thing that's being executed very very well.

Either way, Tom makes great radio out of either being very pissed at someone or pretending really well to be very pissed at someone.  I don't wish the former on anybody, and if that was me in the studio, I wouldn't have been able to keep at it for another 2 hours or more.
