You know what gave me a strange little thrill? That Hatch said "Dave from Knoxville" and I got a little cheer from Terre T, who I admire from afar. I never understood what Tom saw in Jillian Barbarie when Terre T was around, and apparently available.

Next year your pledge comment should be "What's your story?"

I also bellowed "Dave from Knoxville!!" when he read your name! I was in the Pole Position for about the last half of the show -thrill to the sounds of me taking down names and addresses while Hatch reads off pledges!

God bless you, Christina. I believe I heard that you made a mouse pledge; I can only wait and hope that I am somehow able to do the same.

I want to try a psychological experiment for Week 2. Instead of calling it the Mouse pledge, I think it should be called the Grown Up pledge. I think people will want to be among the grown ups (instead of the mice). And it's just a dollar a day and you can spread the payments out over the year. It will not kill you. I intend on getting Fredericks to full grown up level in Week 2.

Tom should have his regular callers call in to get people to pledge.

I think the wise AP is on to something.  "Mouse" is anachronistic anyway, since it dates back to the days when FMU was trying to establish a presence on the Internets.  If I hadn't been listening back then, I'd probably wonder what the hell "Mouse Pledge" is supposed to mean.

Mike, maybe you could get Tom to call it the "Horny Pledge," since it earns the pledger a blast from Horny the Horn.

I think calling it the "grown-up pledge" could alienate people only capable of giving less.  I know I can't stand it when people asking me for money try to make me feel like shit for giving less than the so-called recommended donation; indeed, at those times I am tempted not to give anything at all.

I would never imply that, Sarah. I know what it's like to have crummy-paying jobs in my 20s and 30s (not that I'm making the big bucks now). If you can't do it, you can't do it. I wasn't trying to shame Fredericks or anyone else. But obviously WFMU means a lot to him. I'm just saying that if you're an avid listener (and Best Show listeners surely qualify), $1 a day is still a bargain (how many people spend more than that on coffee every day?). Why not congratulate the Mouse pledgers by allowing them to sit at the big peoples' table (or if that's still too alienating, how 'bout the Graduate level since you've graduated to a more serious level of commitment to the station?)?

What if you want to donate the $365 but you don't wanna grow up?

In that case, what if we made it "Grown Up" in quotes implying possible irony?

I am a fairly new listener; I never knew what a "mouse" pledge meant other than $365.
I like the idea of calling it something else, and about two minutes ago I really liked the "Grown Up Pledge" rebranding.
But now--now it's a whole two minutes later. And it has run through my head a few more times.
It's too condescending.
Unfortunately, labeling the different brackets of money donated as incremental stages implying maturity or intelligence won't work for those who can't afford that contribution.

It has to be something ironic and endearing and nonsensical. It can't be called "Best Friend of Tom Pledge" or whatever because the hardcore fan that can't buck up will feel bad.

...What costs a dollar a day? Tolls? Soda?

ONE PENNY EVERY FIFTEEN MINUTES. Is fifteen minutes of WFMU worth more than ONE PENNY to you?

Hatch uploaded that, at least I think so, the uploader's called thedailycrosshatch. He posted a whole bunch of clips from Tuesday's goings-on.

EDIT: I don't know why I was unsure - it's definitely Hatch.

What if you want to donate the $365 but you don't wanna grow up?

Someday I hope to make a "Grown Up" pledge. I had to sell personal items just to make a $75 pledge. (i'm not bitching...its well worth it) Plus I'm still paying monthly from last november's emergency marathon.

As a poor person, I'm not offended by the term "Grown Up" pledge. I know my limitations and I do what I can. It makes me happy when I hear others make large pledges. I just never want WFMU to go away. (or worse...go corporate)
