I have that itch slightly but I have it more with going to see long movies in the theater. Dekalog and the Bonderchuk War & Peace gave me pancake ass, and yet I'd go see something like those again ... something about them being really crazy to screen makes me go watch them ... kind of the film equivalent of a limited edition record.

Avoid Satantango at all costs, I think it's something like 15 hours?  I tried to make it through but couldn't.  It was so boring a bunch of weird eastern Europeans wondering around in the mud.  There is on shot that's just this pudgy guy staring out a window, this scene was over an hour long.

Additionally my favorite moment from the last show was the spike call, I just love Tom listing the cast of Losers.  This show in total was a highlight.  Tom came up with so many great things on the fly this week. 8)

I like Satantango and would gladly watch the entire thing again.  It is a long, hypnotic, immersive experience with a real narrative, stunning b&w cinematography, atmosphere for days, and a wicked sense of humour.

Another thing...

Satantango is only nine hours long. Come on!

it's 7.5 hours, you Tarradummy!

Well it feels like nine! It's not like Shoah which just flies by!

Unrelated but something I just remembered:

Best headline ever, for a movie review of the Gus Van Sant movie Gerry a couple of years ago:

"Dude, Where's My Tarr?"

I'm stoked Tom mentioned my book last night!!

And he's right - I inserted a secret "FOT" on the glass front of a pinball machine in the 11th floor apartment in the book.

Scott, this book looks wicked cool, and I'm going to pick me up a copy!
Remember how he couldn't stop his leg?

I guess it just felt like 15 hours.  I just remember sitting in a theatre for most of a day and thinking "my life..."

However I can recommend a number of much shorter long movies.  La commune, Los Angeles Plays Itself, Branagh's Hamlet (last film shot in 70mm) and Henri Langlois: Phantom of the Cinematheque.

I'm totally off topic here but please forgive me for dissing the highly revered Satantango.  It's just not my thing.

"Is Terrence Malick in the Beastie Boys now?"

As for Today's Carl Sagan, I'd have to say Neil DeGrasse Tyson is the closest we have.
It ain't ego, it's my love for you.

This and Tom's cast lineup for The Losers (which Spike didn't even seem remotely interested in questioning the veracity of) have been the undisputed highlights so far. "Both David Axelrods"!

Bachman Turner Overdrive's Greatest Hits had me drawing unwelcome attention to myself by almost doubling over trying to suppress laughter when waiting for a train this afternoon.

I'd argue it was Phil Plaitt.  Just to argue about something.

Tom:  Who got you into Phish?

Kid:    My dad.

Tom:  I might have to call DYFS* on that.

THANK YOU. I thought "Deyfuss" was a special friend of Tom's whom he called if he had to, you know, take care of somebody.

I also liked him asking if the Dad said something about 4/20 before disappearing into the garage.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Best Milo call yet. It made me laugh out loud at work. My co-workers are getting used to it.

As much as I hate to say it, that was a pretty good Jamesing.
