Got to listen to the last half of the show at work today. The PBR call and the Guitar Heaven skewering are both great. I love how it's so obvious Santana is just picking songs from various incarnations of Guitar/Band Hero.

You just wait on that Santana record. When it gets reissued in 2025, Pitchfork is going to rate it a 9.7.

Over my dead body.

RE: One Foot In The Grave - it is a classic sitcom, swiss guy didn't explain it very well - however, US viewers may only be familiar with the saccharine, point-missing US remake called, er, COSBY. I suppose the set up of a grumpy guy railing at the modern world could be compared to lots of things, most recently Curb Your Enthusiasm, but the show is written with genuine anger, with Victor becoming a proxy for our own disenchantment with Thatcher's Britain.

It is significant for including deeply disturbing material, within a cosy, studio-set, sunday evening sitcom - kind of like season 5 of Archie Bunker's Place! An example of this would be the episode 'who will buy?' One Foot in the Grave - Who Will Buy? (1/3)
In the episode, a sub-plot involves Victor's wife befriending a lonely blind man who is repeatedly burgled. He lives in hope of a letter from his son in Australia, and ask's Margaret to read him one, which turns out to be junk mail. At the end of the episode, the man dies following another burglary, and the coda to the epsiode reveals that he spent the money he had put aside for improving security on toys for his absent grandchildren.

The theme song for 'One Foot in the Grave' was written and performed by Eric Idle - so you KNOW it's awesome.

Ben Kharakh's call about the bumper sticker is a close second. Worst moment of the show for me (and I type this as a Kharakh fan.)

In Tales of Terror, they get a huge laugh from revealing that a guys wife has hung herself. It occurs about 8.10 into this clip, though its probably worth watching the whole episode.

One Foot in the Grave Tales of Terror S6 Ep2 Part3

The series as a whole ends with Victor being run over by a hit-and-run driver and Margaret possibly poisoning his killer.

The problem is, taken out of context, this all sounds unbearably grim, but the show is a riot. The 'dark' material is always mixed in with the comedy and normally results in a laugh anyway - there are no 'very special episodes'.

Yes, and he appears in at least one episode.

By the way, I wasn't joking about Cosby. The series called Cosby (1996-2000) is a remake of this. I have never seen a full epsiode, but I've seen excerpts on documentaries about OFITG which always emphasise how soppy the remake is.

I still don't understand the bumper sticker, either.

PBR saying "meet-cute"

Also, I'd be on board if Sparkie Pop was in studio every week.  Haivng people in the background makes the show seem more like a party, gives it a George Lopez feel.

I still don't understand the bumper sticker, either.

I think it said "My daughter was killed by an uninstructed teenage driver." (I was exhausted on Tuesday night from staying up all night Sunday and waking up early Tuesday, so my memory seemed off.) When I first saw the sticker, I thought, "A bumper is a terrible place to eulogize someone." "Yeah, in loving memory, right next to the, 'What, ya got meatballs for eyes?,' " When I said the sticker outloud, I thought, "Wait; is that sticker saying the daughter is the uninstructed teenage driver and she's going to kill herself because she doesn't know how to drive?" That would be a terrible joke bumper sticker! It had a coptic cross on it, though, and another sticker right next to it that said, "In loving memory of Jennifer Burke." So it's not a joke; it's just an awful sticker. Then I started thinking about what it was like to have that printed. And theeeen! Someone told me that 13 year olds sometimes just take cars out and drive?! What?! So it's a PSA?

I thought it was like when people get rear window decals that say RIP CARLOS in weird Ed Hardy letters. Which, again, is a terrible format for a eulogy.
