Just got to the Todd Barry conversation portion of the podcast, and I shamefully admit that it's not just The South that's "different": in Minnesota they actually have to put up "NO GUNS ALLOWED" signs on our storefronts and eateries as a provision of the concealed-carry legislation we have up here. This is not a good deterrent, since Fargo is proof positive that most violent gun crimes here actually happen in parking garages.

Todd Barry: "Tom, you're gonna have to email me later and tell me what I was just listening to."

That caused me a nasal spit-take, imagining Todd Barry listening to the last couple minutes of "Tell My Wife" kid while on hold.  He is always so diplomatic.  Like, "I'm sure if I listened all the way through, it would make perfect sense to me."
"I am the shade of a person who was killed in a violent crime, and my spirit lingers here on earth because of the unfinished business that I have in life.  Could you play some Ke$ha?"

"I hired Frank Oz so the dog could sound like Yoda"

The brilliance of the Old Man/Kid can not be denied, same goes for Todd Barry's reaction to it.

Hard to believe.

I lost it at the Benjamin Button and Kenner references. Too funny!

I can't listen to the show live, but heard the podcast yesterday, and I'm keeping that one forever.  The kid/old man bit was hilarious, but the Bruce Springsteen bit was the ultimate -- it kept me laughing almost the whole time.  I don't know how Tom keeps it together as the tale grows and grows, until it seems like the collective laughs of the audience will topple the tower.  Nice.

After Tom's description of "The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia", I had to watch it on Netflix, and while the behaviour shown is a world away from North Dakota, a few of the characters still came out as sympathetic, and they're passionate about their deviancy, you've got to give them that.

Awesome show, thanks to all involved!

Another great moment I forgot: The Wacky Pack reference and Tom's surprised chuckle.

Dale!
I'm from ND as well.   Wishek, to be precise.

Glad to see another North Dakotan ANYWHERE, much less here.

I also thought long and hard about my hometown when Tom was talking about that documentary.  Some of it hits oddly close to home.

Skimming the comments here before listening to the show itself, I got a rough idea of what the movie was.  So I have to say I cracked up every time Tom referred to it as "The Wet and Wild-- what is it, Mike?"

Hi Ike!  I'm in Grand Forks, started listening to the Best Show by accident, because the theme song was always clipped to the "Sinner's Crossroads" podcast and I eventually wondered why the "Best Show" was the "best show" on WFMU.  I now know :)

While there is a bit of deviancy in rural ND, I'm not sure that it approaches the level demonstrated in that movie, though you do have to wonder about people's behaviour when the camera is on them.  Some, far better than normal.  Others, far worse.

Laughed my ass off when the little dying old man admitted to putting his wife's mother on a mechanical bull - leading to her getting thrown so hard that there was a lot of "bone splatterin'."

Caissie and Matt are raising some awesome kids.

Favorite bit of a wonderful show was at the beginning when Tom cracked himself up with Andrew Dice Clay's "hour back" routine.

"I'll be... callin' you BACK... in an HOUR?  GEDDIT?!?"

The Old Man Kid had me LOL-ing unusually loudly.

Maybe this is what Wurster was like when he was eight? In any case, he held his own better than most callers who are many times his age -- and then kept the insanity coming.

"Is this me?"
