I never even bothered trying to catalogue all the things I loved about last week - it was all so very very funny. Hodgman outdoes himself every time he comes on, and Tom's bombastic drunkenness was hysterical. It's too bad there was so much going on in the studio so we didn't get to hear a lot from John Roderick - he got in a few good zings.

Tom trying to do the Barenaked Ladies song (which 2009 Marathon Donors know he can do while sober) just reminded me of every drunk guy whose tried to do his party piece and then failed.

Tom trying to right the ship near the end by saying "John Hodgman...Bored To Death is now in Season 2" and then falling off of his chair.

Speaking of Hodgman, this week's "Judge John Hodgman" podcast features a Jason from Alabama whose voice is awfully familiar.

Don't assume too much. I mean, there are probably lots of guys from Huntsville, AL, named Jason who are liturgical geeks and want to squeeze all the joy from the holidays for their poor families.

Listening to the beginning of the show now. I love the story about 127 Hours at the Coolidge Corner Theatre. My wife and I attended one such screening with our infant niece, although the movie was Little Miss Sunshine. It was actually really awesome, because you could relax knowing that you weren't bothering anybody if your kid made noise, because everybody was in the same situation. I can't imagine anyone without an infant wanting to attend, though.

"Post office orifice"

And even though I own the LP, I really enjoyed hearing "Hand of Fate."

Most shocking was the appearance of Mr. Jack.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

You have no idea how comforting that conversation was to me, oddly enough. My mom is pretty much the lady version of PBR minus all of the burglaries.

The Andrew Earles segment reminded me how much I miss the "Where's the Street Team? column in Magnet magazine. Does Magnet actually exist anymore in magazine form btw? I haven't seen it for the last year or so...

It is now a Web-only publication.  Per a recent interview, Earles has about 10 book projects/ideas in the works, including one or two volumes of his own writing, such as the Magnet column and the content from his late-1990s 'zine, The Cimarron Weekend.

Agreed to all of the above, particularly the last.

It seemed like there were many throwbacks on this show - haven't heard from Spike in a while, and he was as true to form as ever, going on about something that only he knows about, and referring to Zach and Cody as a "teenybopper show".

*Also Steve in N. Hol checked in after what seems like a while - "You're transparent. Heave ho."
*It was sort of endearing to hear Andrew Earles coming across as diffident at times, since I'm used to that voice as one of his horrible characters calling in to taunt Tom. I also thought it was amusing in a "you can't win" kind of way that he's getting criticized for not addressing or cataloging the Husker Du gossip & drama. I mean, everything you read about Husker talks about that. Azzerad's chapter refers to it a bit but more to say that it was out there a foot thick during the band's run, and how some stuff was erroneous, etc. I'm gonna pick up a copy when I can.
*Loved how silly Kurt Vile is, esp compared to what music I've heard by him.
*More throwbacks, this time from PBR: didn't realize that I missed "Oblama" and "death panels" until he said them
*I also love when PBR uses quaint words to describe porn and strip clubs, etc - "she caught me using a gentleman's publication". I think I remember another time where he calls a strip club a "parlor".
