The gentleman who hates Olivia Munn a little too much. (Worst moment).

Definitely Julie's call was a high point, I liked the 'what do I use for my higher power? dog power?' thing.

Both of the Olivia Munn related calls were lows.

I was sort of saddened by Eddie's call. I should've been thrilled - it's been a while - but like Tom said, he sounded defeated, like the wind had been knocked out of him. Solid call and all, but it lacked the old Eddie magic.

Tom's storytime was one of the longest uninterrupted-by-a-phone-call segments in a while. A wonderful monologue. Makes me wonder how much the callers actually offer. The Best Show needs more Tom.

His impression of and inexplicable hatred for Ricky Gervais' laugh: high point.

This may be because I'm a Philly guy-- but I'd compare Tom to Bobby Clarke.

One of the greatest hockey players of all time, an undisputed Hall-of-Famer, yet somehow neglected or outright disrespected by so-called "hockey purists" who've never seen a minute of ice time themselves (or who simply resent the Broad Street Bullies-era Flyers).  Clarkie was chippy, a scrapper, the undisputed leader of those teams, and a complete and total winner with either his fists or his stick.  He was a versatile and savvy player, regardless of the talents he'd been born with, and someone who made everyone around him a better player and person.  He also had to struggle with diabetes, and yet that never really interfered with an amazing durability.  Week in and week out, he merited the captaincy.

All that, and though some may quibble with the results-- he came back in later years to manage what he'd been an instrumental part in building.  A case, in other words, of the slobs beating the snobs.

I'm conflicted about Tom's rant about Chicago sports fans. Mostly because he's not too far off base. There's a definite inferiority complex that gets real tiresome. But I don't really think they're any worse than most other large fan bases. I've had plenty of unpleasant interactions with shitheads from Boston, Philly & New York.

And now, for a tangent:
There are few things that bother me more than people who are dismissive of people who enjoy sports. It's possible to like them without being a meathead. That fact should be even more evident now with all the smart/funny/well-written blogs that didn't have a platform before the Internet. Our own Scratchbomb is a great example. While I may not be too interested in the Mets, I do like baseball, and I always enjoy reading his work. It's part of the reason that I enjoy Tom so much because he's one of the few funny people that doesn't just dismiss sports or anyone who likes them. I understand that there are plenty of sports fans that are awful people. Guess what? There are also lots of awful people that don't like sports. Some people are shitty, most people aren't. Get the fuck over it.

I guess I'm just more sensitive about it right now after having to wade through 75% of the people I follow on Twitter (and 99% of the comedians) bitching about people watching the Super Bowl.

"One was from a demented soul". Hardly. Oh, Scharpling, Scharpling, Scharpling. I am the most lucid of all of the regular callers.

"Saturday Night Live" was a nice little touch in that Wurster call.
