Gulcher was the name of Meltzer's second book. It was a collection of pieces about ephemeral low-culture artifacts like bottlecaps, horror movies, rubbers, etc. Tom was suggesting that an updated version might be the place for Ben Kharack's investigative report on Beano.  I don't think even Tom thought it was his greatest wisecrack ever, but--it was arcane, at least.

thanks!  worth reading at all?

I can't really comment on that because I'm not even that much of a Meltzer fan!  I just know all this shit.

Look at how happy he looks. The judge must have just given it to him.

This must have been taken at a recent Tea Party event:

Who would have thought we would have heard ten a capella renditions of the Mr. Moonlight intro and nine kazoo riffs? Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the Mr. Moonlight Chorus! Consistently in tune! Your new ringtone!

I am like two shows behind and have no idea what the context for this is but it is sort of the greatest thing I've ever heard. And weirdly haunting!

One of many favorite moments: Maggie from Brooklyn describing Taylor Hicks as the human incarnation of Dockers.

I honestly can't pin down a single Best moment nor remember any Worst moment, that's how good this past week's best show was.

The Best moment for me, out of many, was Tom and Paul acting out scenarios where "cake" is a horribly racist term.

The Worst moment, which was still great con GOMP, was the Allison from REAL Chicago call (not the one who called back to accept the date.)

I concur.
It's called The Windy City because they're a bunch of blowhards. BOOM!

Just "Newt"?  That's it?  Not even, I don't know, Poot?  Newt Gangrene?

I think "Newt" could be ridiculous enough. A Mad Magazine-esque alteration might not be required.

I really thought I was The Man, just tossing off "Newt Gangrene."  Turns out that phrase gets 950 Google hits.  Jesus, even "Poot Gingrich" gets 125.  This isn't as easy as Spike makes it look!
