If Mike is cast into the outer darkness with Paul F. Tompkins, Aimee Mann, Ted Leo, John Hodgman and others who have contributed so much to the Best Show, I think I'm finally fucking done with it.

I haven't listened to the show yet, what happened? Tom wasn't just joking around like usual?

It wasn't really directly referred to. Mike said something on twitter about not being able to make that week's show, and said on here that he had a prior commitment. I'm not sure why people are jumping to conclusions on the whole thing. It seemed to pretty much blow over.

I listened to him singing the Keane song on loop for about an hour today.

It floored me. It really did. I felt his emotion. Beautiful.

Question about last week's show (with Kurt Vile, Bob Mehr)

What was that line Tom had about Father John Misty? He said "That guy is like x meets y".

I think X was a musician and Y was someone known to be sociopathic,

I think it was Pete Seeger mixed with American Psycho.

Prior to it happening, I never would have guessed that listening to a karaoke performance by Tom Scharpling of Keane's "Somewhere Only We Know" would bring tears to my eyes. But it did. The most unlikely cathartic trigger. It really sneaked up on me.

One of my favorite moments of any episode.

Where (when?) Was that from?

I agree. Just perfect.

Jon's call had me in tears, gasping for breath. Loved hearing the old sign off.

Just started...interesting, had no idea that Tom was working on the Sharon Horgan/SJP HBO show. This has my hopes raised!

I wish I could have called in and talked to Sharon Horgan. I'm a big fan of the podcasts from the Second Captains (hosted by the Irish Times), which her brother produces. In a scene from the first season of Catastrophe, she's wearing a Second Captains t-shirt. I've wondered if she inserted that shout out on her own, or if her brother twisted her arm.

Oh yes. I've seen him on stage a few times here in Chicago (Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf for which he won a Tony)
but he's done TV too:

What is the call from the sound collage between the craigslist drummer and the weird touring band guy?  I could listen to that guy pompously talk about prog rock for hours.
