"Cool" music that you don't like

I'm kinda surprised by all the Sonic Youth backlash. I wasn't blown away by their more recent stuff but the first few albums are so great. I have only seen them live once so I can't tell how good they are as a live band. But I gotta say, when I saw them live, they did the entire Daydream Nation album and that was one of the most memorable live acts I've ever seen- so thorough and professional!

That doomtree thing seemed okay.  Unfortunately, I have a real hard time separating hip hop from the idea of race politics, so I can never listen to stuff like that, because white people make it.

I like intelligent rock music aimed at black people.  What's that called?

TV on the...  no, wait, they're not aiming at black people, are they?  I dunno, Mos Def?  He's aiming himself at black people, but they appear to be ducking.  Coldplay?

Do you ever have those moments where you ask someone to listen to something or you put something on in the car while someones with you and you realize that they probably think it really sucks? That happens to me all the time. You all of the sudden become aware of why the record you adore hasn't gone platinum.

MF Doom, a lot of people i work with LOVE him, but i dont get it...  the wisper rap thing does nothing for me.

I thought he was more mumble-rap than anything; I read "whisper rap" and I think the Ying Yang Twins. And most of Doom's appeal hinges on his whole cliche/truism-tweaking "oh hey those goofy phrases scan really well as rhymes without sounding forced" style, plus dude is just straight-up funny sometimes. Ever hear any of his older stuff from the early '90s with KMD, when he was going under Zev Love X? It's pretty different, more of that Native Tongues style.

(Also, this is a weird coincidence, as I'm actually wearing my MF DOOM shirt today.)

yeah i have heard some of his early stuff and dont dislike it.  i do however really like the monster island czars albums and the Grimm/Doom album, however he did more production on that stuff.  but i gotta say the stuff he has done the last few years i just dont like.  however i really like the stuff Grimm and Megalon  have put out since the split...

i saw the Fiery Furnaces about a year ago, i thought that they where the Flaming Fire, got real excited because a few weeks before the show i heard the Flaming Fire live on WFMU.  after the first song i had a WTF moment...  needless to say i figured it out after the show. 

boy the Fiery Furnaces suck...
