I brought my dog with me for 9 days visiting my in-laws. They fussed, fawned, cooed and generally delighted in having her around. This may speak more highly of my in-laws than my dog, but she is damn charming.

Also, when the in-laws were driving me insane, I could take her out for as long a walk as necessary.

Dogs win. Again.

I don't have to get up... um... EVER.... to walk my cats. And I never have to pick their steaming piles of crap up with a baggie.

Also, if given the chance, 90% of dogs will eat their own poop.

These are the reasons I don't own one, but I still like them. Especially in argyle.

Also, high on The List of Everything -- Seeing a dog sitting in the drivers seat of a parked car and they look like they're driving.

I'll concede that cats are considerably less work than dogs--the only real downside to cats is that they hate you.

Yeah, less work isn't the same as better. One of the secrets of dog ownership is that walks are nearly always pleasurable. Like sex, even if you think you don't really feel like doing it, it usually improves your day.

My cats adore me. I have one that would sit on my lap 24 hours a day if I let her. Not all of them are filled with hate. And, some of them play fetch if you play with them. Two of mine bring toys back to me. So like a dog but less work = excellence.

I have been on many dog walks that were quite unpleasant.

I don't walk my dogs.  My backyard is fenced in, and for at least six months of the year I never close my back door, so dogs (and cats) go in and out at will, which is more freedom than many beasts get.  (During colder months, I let them out whenever they ask.)  Sure, the dogs would love walks through town; no doubt they're a bit bored.  But I barely ever leave my yard, either, so I ask little more of them than I ask of myself.

Cat people, get a room. (I wish there were a bored emoticon)

Mcphee, if you went down and adopted a dog, step up to the F'ing plate and put the work in, you will be rewarded.

let's push this bitch into overdrive:

dog people- if we ever happen to meet in person and you're still talking all this shit about cats, I'm going to bite your neck fat.

I have an orange cat named Spike.  He is not my favorite.

I don't know why I bother talking to you people if you won't just agree with everything I say.
