Of Clue the Movie fame!

Isn't he most famous for his role on "Who's the Boss?"

"Mona convinces Tony to let Samantha stay out all night for a concert. Inspired, Angela makes a list of spontaneous things she wants to do. Tony encourages her, until he finds out she is dating the former high school wild man."

My parents let me watch V, The Day After, Beastmaster, Emmanuelle, all that stuff - but they drew the line at Danza.

Time for a Post Burning FUN FACT: Tony Danza's last name is Iodanza, or some such.

Yo! TonEE! YoIODANZA! YO! YO-IO! YO-YO! Haha! YO-YO DIS' GUY!

I see why he changed it when I read it like my Tio Vito would say it.

Chameleon Street - Wendell B. Harris Jr.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gtO71l46sLA

I wanted to call the TBS last evening to ask Stefani Robinson about her impression of this film, but I am never sure if my hair is alright, and I can't use the phone unless my hair is alright.

Anyway, Ms. Robinson mentioned "Juneteenth" during the interview. I remember seeing Chameleon Street (about Douglas Street, a true "self-starter") in 1989 as part of a film celebration of the same name. In my film course, we compared it with Do the Right Thing. Parallels with Mean Streets were clear, but there were important differences. If I remember correctly, Do the Right Thing and Mean Streets share a common story grammar and cathartic ending, while Chameleon Street and Mean Streets have a common character type, Johnny the Archetype, and, in each film, Johnny appears but differs considerably in how he expresses resistance to all of the stupid laws and expectations and barriers he encounters.

I got a C+ in the class, so believe with caution. If I were smarter, then I'd also tie in Ralph Ellison: Invisible Man - sadly, my paltry gifts end here.

Bonus: I think that Chameleon Street had a "comedy" treatment with Will Smith but died soon after that. Here are interviews with Mr. Harris that someone compiled that address this issue and others: https://youtu.be/N2iXwINvChE?t=60

I didn't understand that this was a parody of the Kardashian family, so I didn't get it right away. I was a little faster with Tap the top: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bh9u6wGj5RK/?taken-by=kyledunnigan1.  It only took 4 viewings to realize that is was completely real.

Warning: Unholy; politically divisive;  ageist.

SMOKE OR FIRE - INTEGRITY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qlANf0BbtWo

Quote
"…[What I wish I had known is that the midlife slump] is a very common thing. It is a transition that is natural and normal, in some ways  analogous to adolescence, a version of it is seen even in chimps or orangutans  and it’s tricky because we assume midlife malaise, when we go through it, is  about something, there must be something wrong with my life or with my  personality. But very often…midlife slump is literally about nothing.” - Jonathan Raouch, The Happiness Curve
Intrigued? Listen to The Happiness Curve on Matt Lewis Show: http://www.mattklewis.com/?p=9770. It comes with a slide show: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Voyage_of_Life.

Next, maybe give a listen to Tiffany Haddish on Paul Gilmartin's Pod-thingy here:
http://mentalpod.com/archives/4816.

Then, consider what little integrity Charles Murray has, especially with his  latest “evidence” and condemnations. Yeah, but then again why? Nothing would  change his mind about some of the real, underlying reasons for today’s inequities and their many roots in the carefully-planned failure of "projects, like Pruit Igoe: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKgZM8y3hso and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq_SpRBXRmE.

I guess then I'll ponder my place on the Happiness Curve and wonder, "how I get here?" - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQiOA7euaYA

I am just full of blah-blah-blah, huh?*

*For years, I thought these were the real Sex Pistols, just as intended. Thank you Mrs. Googles!

Speaking of Emmanuelle, today I learned that movie stole Larks Tongue Part 2 for the soundtrack and Robert Fripp sued (and won)! I guess this means I gotta watch Emmanuelle again? Sigh.

True fact: At a concert, I heard Al Stewart tell a story about his childhood friendship with Robert Fripp who gave Al ten weird guitar lessons. Al quit to write folk songs, and Fripp did something else. But, they are still friends: http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/entertainment/music/sdut-al-stewart-concert-preview-2015apr01-story.html.

Here is Al performing in December 2018 - in the future, apparently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIDP99dwYQc.

Good show; nice, geriatric crowd.

Empty Pockets are his back up band and they are from Chicago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I9a85mOhLlQ. They seemed to be honored to play with him, but, at 72, I am sure Al is happy to have these kids around.

Ha I saw Al Stewart last year too (in Oakland, with Gary "Spooky Tooth" Wright!) and he told the same story. I'd probably never stop talking about it either!

Yep. I saw him very recently, and the story hasn't changed since then. I enjoyed the show, but I would have maybe prefered these surroundings - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5lacM2W7DQ - or Masa's.

BAR BOOT - SHUKAR COLLECTIVE
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BwUVFX-4zw

In the community of my childhood, there was a dice game, "barboot,” that the old men used to play. I was pretty young so I did not learn the village dialect or the game (plus, I grew up "here" and not "there"), but that foreign word and its abrupt syllables have always stuck with me. Barboot. I also recall my father hating the game and my grandfather loving it. I guess there were some debts to be settled sometimes / often, and my dad resented being "financier."

So, I googles “barboot” and I find this video by “Shukar Collective” (attached). I think they are a Romanian band or maybe some dangerous Mafiosi - How would I know? The music sounds ominous. Plus, the song is about gambling. Anyway, I can hear the "dice" clicking in the background of the video, so I think that I'm on the right track - crap-shot living at its finest.

For me, their video, Oh, Girl, tells a pretty amazing story about the old man's family. It makes me reconsider much about my grand parents - from among his tattoos and her tattoos and her smile, I bet they had quite a time.  Whether you can understand the words or not, I think that it is a quite compelling tale of true love: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R5kmzxzyrg0&list=RDR5kmzxzyrg0&t=1

One life - use it up, I guess.

Or not.

I think they did a documentary on the band on HBO, but I don't have HBO.

The song lyrics to barboot are below. They didn’t help me much.

Here is what Google Translate did (Romanian to English) in case you want to sing along.

Da-doon
Halama ursarina
Bring the donut
Cari di Mara had
He gives the tall hall.

Who's in the neighborhoods?
Tamango with a fist of iron, go!
Make pit in the ground
And let go of barbot!

Halama ursarina
Bring the donut
Cari di Mara had
He gives the tall hall.

Who's in the neighborhoods?
Tamango with a fist of iron, go!
Make pit in the ground
And let go of barbot!

Alternative Online Translation:

Who enters the hood?
Iron Fist Tamango, hăi!
He digs a hole in the ground
And gives the start of the game of Craps!
