Podcast Suggestions?
« on: February 05, 2009, 01:56:36 AM »
Today I scraped the bottom of iTunes and listened to an episode of "Hey, Look Out!"

I'd appreciate any podcast suggestions.

I've recently been enjoying The Monocle Weekly, because I think it's a fraud.  Those people are ridiculous.

WFMU's Anti-Static and Tale of the Twelve.

In Our Time.

If you like the You Look Nice Today podcast, there is a Seattle based show I just found (on Merlin Mann's twittermendation) that is very similar in feel, Too Beautiful To Live.

I've only listened to a few episodes, but they seem to do a fairly humorous 3 hour talk show every weeknight, which doesn't seem easy, even if it's obviously no Best Show. Much like YLNT it's wittiness can sometimes edge into smugness, but if that doesn't disgust you, it's worth a listen.

If you don't subscribe, WFMU's The Dusty Show is a must.
I'll probably go into the wee hours.

Here are the ones that I listen to :

Fresh Air from NPR
Comedy and Everything Else
Stop Podcasting Yourself
Sound of Young America
Jordan Jesse Go
Seven Second Delay
Best Show ('Natch)
WNYC Radio Lab
All Songs Considered
the Bugle
Bit Parade Show

These aren't all the time great, but they are entertaining to me.
A poor man's Bronson Pinchot.

The best week ever daily podcasts can be funny. Hit or miss. But they are worth having around for some of the special ones. For instance, bad movies edited down to two minutes.

I also sometimes listen to "this week in tech". Hodgman was on a few times. It can be really to much nerd, tech talk. But it can also be interesting and keep you up on tech news/cool internet sites to visit.

On the media and radio lab, the best from NPR.

UBC (University of British Columbia) 's radio station, CITR, podcasts the majority of its schedule.

http://www.citr.ca/schedule.php

The music shows are good but of particular interest here probably is Nardwuar's show:

http://playlist.citr.ca/podcasting/xml/nardwuarthehumanserviettepresents.xml

Nardwuar is probably best known for his unique interviews with musicians and other celebrities.   If you are unaware of his particular charms, I'll leave the surprise to you.  More here:  http://www.nardwuar.com/

I'd recommend CBC's The Best of Ideas: http://www.cbc.ca/podcasting/includes/ideas.xml

and also CBC's Wiretap (that CBC does not actually podcast, but is available here
