This thread reminds me of every single patchouli-reeking, meandering, sub-literate Grateful Dead taper forum in the known universe and I don't like it.

I love it!

I've never been so embarrassed and humiliated.

And yet, I must continue:

I'm listening to September 14, 2004's episode where he GOMPs a Rock Critic.  It's a good episode.  The one before it was the Medical Marijuana first jam.  Which was great too.

I pulled up that episode in an attempt to find that rock critic call and fast-forwarded right to the point where I heard Tom finish a call with Laurie. I had no idea she was calling way back then.

I just listened to March 6, 2001:  Hot Rockin' Ronny Versus Tom, And Weatherman Cliff Petterson Explains "The Storm of the Century."

Really funny!

I love the April 22, 2008 edition of The Best Show.  Scharpling + Wurster + Tompkins = luscious liquid gold.  Like A great book, or A fine wine that only gets better with age.  I listen to this at least once A week.

Also, March 1, 2005.  Mike Sajak, total genius! Cheers

Yes! This episode was impeccable. I'd say I might listen to how Paul became PBP biweekly. It's phenominal.

I also recently listened to the "Best Show Morning Zoo" on the December 5th, 2006 installment, and I must say that I was in shock..... having listened to The Millionaire's call from the week before, this "morning zoo" version of the call was frightening. It is also time-appropriate, because if TBSOWFMU was TBS"NOT on WFMU", the Wurster calls we know and love would become some horrible disfiguration of what they are now, all thanks to corporate-douche-baggery. It served as a warning for me, and that's (part of) why I pledged.

Working my way forward through the archives and I just listened to this one, the "George Benson's White Son" call, and the "Flying the Erotic Skies" call. Love Jon Benjamin. Wish he'd call in again for ol' time's sake.

Question: Does the first Gorch appearance predate the first archived show? Because I was listening to the first marathon shows in 2001, and they play a Gorch clip.

I wonder if there's a site that could help answer that.

I can't remember if its an official CD or something I got from the old vault, but I can't remember which call is the original president baseball call. I've checked buffcoat's site.

Sorry. I will consult the site first in the future before bothering the forum with such trifles.

You need Omar to go back in time and summarize all the early shows.

I do know that there was actually a reference to "President Football" in one of the very early calls (PBR?  HRR?) that I heard last month on my iPod.  I should have written it down - I knew it would come in handy.

I was also thinking about this recently. But, I thought of Omar's status as scrivener/monk reserved him to remain in his line of work, beautifully crafting the large lump of clay that is the Best Show. I can imagine an apprentice scrivener attempting to don the robes working alongside Omar, renvisioning and recapitulating through typeface the shows past...potentially starting from Omar's beginnings and moving backward.

All I'm saying is that the responsibility of recapping all the unrecapped shows doesn't have to placed solely on Omar's shoulders. But then we run into a problem: who can do what Omar does as good as Omar does?

I love your site! Thanks to all the old school FOT's, for educating all us newer FOT slobs.  Speaking for myself, the slob part anyway. You've all been very cool. Cheers!

I can imagine a late-period Omar who takes on an apprentice, shows him how it's done, and then signs his name to the apprentice's work.

This is a very likely scenario.  I need to groom my H-Man!

Scrivening note: a combined recap of the two marathon shows is in progress, an epic slated for publication in early 2010.
