Pete Seger 90th Birthday Party
« on: March 19, 2009, 09:31:44 AM »
Hi Tom.

Seeing as you are such a Seeger-head, I thought I would share this with you :

-- Pete Seeger, a folk music legend in his spare time, is turning 90. Who's playing his birthday party? A fellah named Bruce Springsteen, for one, and also John Mellencamp, Eddie Vedder, and more. It's going down on May 3 at Madison Square Garden in New York. Also, it benefits a cause, Hudson River Sloop Clearwater, founded by Seeger, which aims to preserve and protect the Hudson River. There's a fancy invite and more info at the Seeger 90 website. Be sure to check out Joshua Klein's interview with the man himself.

Sounds like a hoot, get your tickets early.

Jeremy.
A poor man's Bronson Pinchot.

Mr. Seger's music and humanity are national treasures.

It's a shame all we have now is "I am Sasha Fierce" these days.

Blah.

Seger was alive during the Great Depression, think of that! I wonder what he thinks of everyone's worries today?
"Is this me?"

I love the old bugger because when he was dragged before the H.U.A.C.
his defense was the  First Amendment rather than the Fifth.

Close paraphrase (kinda): "I have the right to sing to whomever I want to.  I'm an American."
"Like it or not, Florida seems dedicated to a 'live fast, die' way of doing things."
