Mystery Earworms and my attempts to extract them...
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:40:31 PM »
Ever get a bit of a song stuck in your head and you just don't know what it is?

Of course you do...

This is troublesome because these fragments generally include no decipherable lyrics to Google, only just a tune.

I've had some success identifying my mystery earworms using a technique I call Awesome Hum. I record all that I can communicate on the matter to youtube and then generally post it in Yahoo answers music forum or on my facebook... but people often make fun of me and have no useful feedback.

Here is my latest venture, to discover the source of a soulful wail which probably harkens from the era of James Ingram and Billy Ocean... not to say it is one of these artists, but that's just a very general guiding guess as to what it evokes in my head.

I am debuting my latest Awesome Hum here on the forum, because I have confidence in readers wide-ranging musical familiarity and know that you are respectful enough not to make fun of me, or at least to do so in an interesting or useful way.

Thanks Jon,

Nailed it!

Jeffrey Osbourne You Should Be Mine (woo woo song)

Not many people talking about Jeffrey Osbourne these days...

Since we made such short work of this one, I'll upload another and drop it in this thread in a bit.

Mr. Colin,

That is amazingly correct in the first count, though I doubt I ever heard that DJ Kool track...

What scares me about this is that the "hook" from 900 Number (which seems to be all there is to it), and the Woo Woo from Jeffrey Osborne lodged in my head for 20 years or more and through the power of this forum they were identified tout de suite.

Such good therapy, as these fragments are much more comforting and less controlling of my consciousness now that they have been pegged into their original contexts.

For the record, other Awesome Hum bits that I had previously put away, though hardly with such efficiency as here, include:

In the Meantime - Spacehog.

Behind the Door - Zebra.

Firebird Suite - Stravinsky.

Livin' In the USA - Steve Miller.

So Alive - Love and Rockets.

Such a helpful excercise that I encourage others to chime in with their own concerns...

Thank you good folks.

Okay, this one's a family affair... aggressive female country tune. Serious "Redneck Woman" vibe... hate it. Need help.
