need help identifying an episode
« on: March 07, 2013, 08:35:22 PM »
Hi all, just started listening to the best show recently and have become a little obsessed. Once I heard a few Wurster calls I thought back to a radio segment I heard online about 4 years ago on some music forum, and I'm almost certain it had to be one of Wurster's calls to the best show.

As I remember it, on this call, Wurster would've been playing some sort of rock n roll insider who personally knew a lot of the biggest people in rock history, and he kept namedropping all these guys/ladies except he used strange or funny nicknames which Tom could not have possibly known who he was talking about. Then Tom would ask him "who?", and then Wurster would clarify. It was hilarious but I can't find it now and I'd really appreciate if any of you guys could help. Sorry if my description is vague.

I know how you feel...sorry I don't know which ep you mean. Don't know why I'm stanning so hard for this, but if you are interested in Wurster, the Saturn Scene podcast (just google it) is a really in-depth interview about his method, etc. I had been looking for something exactly like this, and it's a great interview

I believe it is this:

September 4, 2001: The Music Scholar [No Archive]

The call is the first track on the CHAIN FIGHTS, BEER BUSTS AND SERVICE WITH A GRIN CD release.

1. The Music Scholar

A simple call from a listener chastising Tom for playing a Rolling Stones record leads to a fascinating peek inside the mind of "the coolest guy ever." Charles R. Martin saw the Beatles at age six, the Stooges at ten, attended the legendary 1973 Rock Writer's Conference in Memphis at age 15, moved to NYC in '74 to bask in the CBGB/Max's scene, and became a much-feared record store proprietor in the early '80s. He eventually tired of rock, choosing to listen to soundless 'air mixes' for the next decade. A chance encounter with modern rock radio has given him a new lease on life.

Omar to the aid of the information-deprived!

There's also a "Music Scholar Reprise" that S&W did as a special marathon award for a pledger who gets mentioned during the call. That pledger has graciously made it available online if you can find it.
I really don't appreciate your sarcastic, anti-comedy tone, Bro!
